Ragnar Relay 2009

Pam and I participated in a 24-hour running relay this past Friday and Saturday with a team of 10 other people. As a team, we ran 158 miles from Santa Barbara, CA to Dana Point, CA over a 24-hour period without stopping. Each one of us ran three 3 to 8 mile legs. Our team consisted of our good friends Dave Parry, Eric Elison, Chris Scott, and 7 other people whom we had just met the night before. It was a great (and painful) time!!!

Following are our pics in chronological order:

"Those squirrels are SO cute!" They were actually fat, mangy, and lived along a creek of drainage water!

Dave, Chris and Eric getting our packets at the starting line in Santa Barbara.

All smiles before we really knew what lay ahead of us.

The five us at the starting line. We were about to spend a solid 24 hours together packed in our car! We weren't quite as creative about our names and running gear as the following teams were.

This team was called "The Inflatables" because they wore these hilarious costumes throughout the course of the race!

This team was called "Runaway Bride and Groom".

The count-down...

...and they're off!

A great pic opportunity with beautiful scenery and a setting sun!

Pam waiting for to begin her second leg at 12:30am.

After our 2nd leg ended at 3:00am, we only had 3 hours to sleep, so we unloaded our bags and slept on the beach. It was awesome!

Getting ready for my 3rd and final leg.

I was SO glad when it was finally over! My legs are very sore today, but we are glad we did it!

ps. We started training for it 10 days ago...that was a BIG mistake! Next time we'll be better prepared!
